Astrid began writing short poems in 2014 after issues revolving her family, friends, school, and work took its toll and sent her into a deep depression. Her poems originally consisted of short lines and stanza’s as a form of self-expression to cope with everyday problems. After two years of writing, Astrid decided to join the CSU Dominguez Hills poetry club and slam team, For the Love of Writing (F.L.O.W.), where she was introduced to spoken word and slam poetry.
After one year, Astrid ended up becoming president of the poetry club and captain of the slam team during her senior year. F.L.O.W. exposed her to the realm of all things poetry through coaching, coordinating, and performing at local open-mics and school events.
Since then, Astrid has continued performing at open-mics all over Southern California, and has had the opportunity to speak as a featured poet over 10 times this year alone! Overall, Astrid continues sharing her voice and her story to shed light on issues revolving relationships, women, and politics to showcase the impact people’s actions have on the lives of others.
