The Fullerton Museum Center is scheduled to display the “Under the Microscope: The Art of GERMS” exhibit beginning Saturday, July 29th, with a reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The opening reception will include dinner, a live band and a curator’s talk with featured artist, GERMS. The reception is free to museum members and $10 for the general public.

Los Angeles based painter Jaime Zacarias, better known as GERMS, creates work that echoes his Chicano art heritage with infusions of LA subculture and surrealist imagery. Iconic images like the Luchador mask are given fresh life with protruding tentacles, surrounded by floating amoebas playfully flirting with viewers’ imaginations.

This world premiere exhibit chronicles Zacarias’ many-tentacled career, from childhood drawings and borrowed works in prominent collections, to new, never-before-seen works created especially for this show.

The Fullerton Museum Center will host various events throughout the duration of the exhibit, including “Artist in Residence,” which are live painting demonstrations, and “Super Saturday for Kids,” where children can do creative art projects inspired by the artist.

The exhibit concludes with Closing Weekend Family Day on October 22nd. Tours and children activities will be held in the museum galleries and classroom.

The cost for some of these events may vary. Contact the Fullerton Museum Center at 714-738-6545 for more information.
