LA River declared ‘traditional navigable waters’ ~ Los Angeles

The EPA officially declared the entire LA River 'traditional navigable waters' leading the way for the 51 mile urban watershed to be protected under the Clean Water Act.

"We're moving away from the concrete," said U.S. EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson.  "This is a watershed as important as any other.  So we are going to build a federal partnership to empower communities .… We want the L.A. River to demonstrate how urban waterways across the country can serve as assets in building stronger neighborhoods, attracting new businesses and creating new jobs."

Although various groups looking forward to this declaration are thrilled, many who know the LA River well and live nearby and/or around it may have other thoughts.
