Police Seek Hit-and-Run Driver Who Dragged Victim for Blocks in Arlington Heights

12:36 PM PST on March 5, 2018

Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who dragged a man under a car for about a quarter-mile late Sunday in Central Los Angeles.

The man was standing outside of his car near 4th Avenue and West Washington Boulevard in Arlington Heights when a car struck him and dragged him for blocks. The man trapped under the car's wheel well fell off when the car made a U-turn, NBC4 reports. The man then crawled to a nearby house for help.

Officer Mike Tirella of the Los Angeles Police Department's West Traffic Division told NBC4 that two women were inside the car while the man was standing outside the car with the door open looking for something in the front seat when he was hit.

As previously reported on L.A. TACO, Los Angeles County was named the deadliest for pedestrians by the Auto Insurance Center after analyzing 2014 data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. According to Vision Zero Los Angeles, nearly half of the people killed on streets of L.A. every year are either walking or cycling.

The victim of Sunday's hit-and-run suffered scrapes, cuts, and injuries to his face and was taken to the hospital for treatment, according to NBC4. He is expected to survive, Tirella told KTLA 5. The report states that the victim was struck by a gray Nissan Versa.

There is no description available of the hit-and-run driver.
