Sara celbrated her 30th birthday Saturday night at her boyfriend Mark “Dekan” P’s house in Pasadena, with relatives and friends making appearences from Arizona and surrounding L.A. The homey and spirted affair involved lots of tequila, beer and quite a few heartbreaking jam sessions of Norteno songs that found Sara’s dad, a former boxer, on accordian, and her friend on guitar and a sterling voice.

Those who really appreciate their Irish heritage got an early start this Paddy’s Day. We chose to spend the wee hours (and $10) to do it at Brennan’s, which was sadly free of turtle racing that day. We did however, find green beer among the Guinness and Harp and a bevy of revelers dressed as leprechauns and other resplendant greenery. Unfortunately Los Angeles’ lack of Irish bars had West Side venues not usually on our radar jam-packed with alcoholics, and the police in marked and unmarked cruisers plenty busy.
