Valentin Elizalde ~ R.I.P.

From SFGate.com:

“…popular singer, Valentin Elizalde, his manager and driver were gunned down in an ambush after a concert in the border city of Reynosa in an apparent gangland hit Saturday as unabated drug-related violence continued across Mexico.

The {27-year-old singer} was killed about 20 minutes after performing at a local fair. Elizalde was a mainstay of the accordion-based norteño music variously known as Banda or grupero and also was known by the nickname “the Golden Rooster…” He also wrote lyrics honoring one of Mexico’s most notorious drug lords, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, leader of the Sinaloa Cartel. Last year, he sang one of his narcocorridos, ballads honoring the exploits of drug dealers, to a crowd of more than 3,000 convicts at the Puente Grande prison in the central state of Jalisco.

According to media reports, two vehicles chased Elizalde’s black Suburban as he left the concert and opened fire with automatic weapons as dozens of witnesses looked on. As many as 70 bullet cartridges were found scattered on the street around Elizalde’s car. According to media reports, Elizalde was hit as many as eight times.”

Hieroglyphics ~ Los Angeles

hieroglyf.jpg

“The hieroglyphs were enigmatic and symbolic engravings, which were much used in ancient times and preceding centuries, especially among the Egyptian prophets and teachers of religion, who considered it unlawful to expose the mysteries of wisdom in ordinary writing to lay people, as we do. And if they judged something to be a worthy piece of knowledge, they represented it in plain drawings or animals and other things in such a way that it was not easy for anyone to guess.” - Filippo Fasanini

Albert Einstein predicted the advent of time-travel, but we hardly understand what he was on. It’s much easier for us to step into Car Expo on Venice Blvd. and LaCienega to be transported back to the vestiges of the 70’s that we remember from the early 80’s. An old-skool Coke machine, wood paneled walls, and truly heinous curtains are just small pieces of the big timewarp puzzle. It is one giant Proustian madelaine for the Max Headroom generation. Oh yeah, they’ll give you a smog check too.

Eastern Conference Champions ~ LIVE ~ Safari Sam’s ~ Hollywood

ECC2.jpg

Just three dudes from Philadelphia and one full, orchestral sound. Throw together tambourines and shakers on top of explosive rock pounding from Greg Lyons (drums), gauzy harmonies between Josh Ostrander (lead vocals and guitar) and Vern Zaborowski (bass) and you’ve got the multi-layered celestial sounding Eastern Conference Champions teetering at its pinnacle. Draped in candy-colored luminosity on Safari Sam’s lofty stage, the Champions rocked out (sadly, without Ostrander’s cock out) for their first Los Angeles performance after a series of unfortunate van troubles causing them to miss their peviously scheduled shows in the city of Tacos.

Mariachi Music Videos

The “mariachi” is a type of musical group, originally from Mexico. The mariachi sound is a mixture of Spanish, Native, and African traditions and differs from region to region within Mexico. In southeastern Mexico, the “son huasteco” or “huapango” evolved and often included a flute as part of the standard ensemble. This style is reflected in songs such as La Malagueña and Serenata Huasteca.

La Malagueña has lyrics written by Pedro Galindo and music by Elpidio Ramirez. It is a song dedicated to a girl from Malaga: ..¡Qué bonitos ojos tienes, debajo de esas dos cejas,….. (What pretty eyes you have, under those two eyebrows,…) (source)

Videoclip de la segunda temporada de Lost. La canción es la versión mariachi de La Malagueña:
