Opening Reception Friday, July 15, 2011 from 7‑10pm ~ Corey Helford Gallery ~
8522 Washington Boulevard Culver City
On Friday, July 15, Corey Helford Gallery will debut “Idle Hands,” the highly-anticipated solo exhibition of pop artist COOP, and his most audacious yet.
COOP’s new body of work is rendered in his signature style—self-described as “hillbilly sex crime pop art”—and features the bold colors and subject matter he is known for but with a decidedly bawdier bent. “Pulp magazines, more overt sexuality and a little more deliberate provocation are on display this time around,” COOP says of the full-figured muses, bodacious backsides and sexed-up superheroes featured in “Idle Hands.”

A total of 60 wine and food pairing stations will feature the best wine and food Southern and Northern California has to offer.

Sergio’s tacos is one of the most requested taco reviews we get here at L.A. TACO. For year we’ve received emails from passionate Sergio’s fans telling us to get it together and review their favorite spot. We still haven’t gotten around to it and as we’ve slept, Sergio’s has been expanding. Our friend Bandini the Taco Hunter hasn’t been asleep and has been continuing his never-ending taco hunt. Check out an excerpt from his Sergio’s review below.
You’re at the corner of Garfield and Olympic, home to the newest Sergio’s tacos taqueria. Do you eat at the taco truck, inside the restaurant, or the drive-up window? The drive-up window is out; you’re not that lazy, and the restaurant can wait; you’re on the foolhardy mission to blog about every taco truck in LA. The once empty lot, that now serves as Sergio’s most happening taco outpost, is not short on options. But the choice is easy. You choose the taco truck.
al pastor and carne asada $1.25 eachThe tacos are addictive and before you know it you’ve had a couple plates and can’t stop hiccuping. People are snickering because they think you can’t handle the heat, and it’s not a blistering heat; you just hiccup every time you eat something spicy. And you love spicy food. Go figure. The salsa is the star here but the carne asada is pretty damn good. The tacos are packed with the dense chunks of carne, and there’s a lot of flavor.

Homo Riot will be conducting a live street art installation on a 19ft Mobile Unit during the second 2011 installment of Andres Rigal’s SummerTramp. SummerTramp is a parking-lot-turned-water-park LA summer party series held at Tony’s Bar, 2017 East 7th Street in Downtown Los Angeles on June 26th from 12pm – 6pm.
