SEPTERHED ~ Studio Visit

Before the holidays we were able to catch up with LA street artist Septerhed for a photo shoot at the The Site Unscene studio in Downtown LA. We got a preview of some of his latest work that will hit the streets in 2012. Septerhed spoke to us about a possible solo exhibit at the end of the Mayan calender to display his latest concept: “COMPLETE DESTRUCTION OF GREY SPACE.” Also in the works is an extremely limited run on a line of t-shirts. Septerhed is looking to make a big impact on LA in 2012, with bigger works on the streets, new techniques, and more ridiculous design habits. As he put it, “This is not a hobby, this is my life. I am a creative until my very last breath.”

Irwindale ~ 2011 Mooneyes Xmas Party Car Show

A couple of weeks ago was the annual Mooneyes Xmas Party at the Irwindale Raceway. Let me sum it up this way; if you were not there, you missed a good one! The show is good every year (even in the rain) but for some reason this year was extra good, even great! The vibe was excellent, the cars looked really good and the people were all having a great time.  I heard it was at capacity by 10am and people were waiting 1 1/2 to 2 hours to get in. Thankfully Stephanie & I were there by 8am. We have to once again thank Chico and the Mooneyes team for the passes and the parking pass. It is very much appreciated.

Geezer Bandit Strikes Again, Authorities Probe Costume Shop

The “Geezer Bandit”, reported to be an elderly bank robber who is surprisingly light on his feet, may actually be a younger man in a mask. Take a look at the latest security footage of the geezer above, and a mask called “The Elder” by SPFX Masks below. See a resemblance? The Feds do- they’re looking into a costume shop in the San Luis Obispo area that sells the mask. This outlaw hero to geriatric criminals everywhere may just be an act, and his 3,000 facebook fans are sure to be disappointed.

“Holiday in LA” Street Skating Video

A day of street skating in Los Angeles with Andy Lemmon, Jared Sherbert, Kevin Terpening and Cody Green. Set to “Two Turntables and a Microphone” and with a vintage filter that makes it seem like the 70′s. LA’s immortal light and older buildings are happy to complete the illusion. Hammer & Flower Mural ~ Boyle Heights

New mural located on the side of Libros Schmibros in Boyle Heights. Carlos Callejo, Raul Gonzales and other community artist finished this up in a few days.

1932 Children’s Map of Los Angeles “The Wonder City”

The images above and below are from a 1930′s map for children, via the wonderful Big Map Blog. It gives some nice insights into the major sights and marvels of “the wonder city” according to graphic artist, K M Leuschner in 1932. Heavy on country clubs, luxury hotels, school and institutions, this map seems to be a Hancock Park centric view of upper middle class landmarks of early 30′s LA. More info is definitely needed about the “nude sun baths” of Santa Monica.

You can explore the entire map, plus download it as JPG here: Big Map Blog 1932 Map of Los Angeles
