On the one hand you have to feel sorry for this guy, but does anyone really want to get proposed to in front of people at a sporting event? Looks like a classic case of over reaching. It will probably all work out for the best in the long run, but god is this awkward.

We’ve been resisting these culture mashups to promote Pacific Standard Time because although the pairings are intriguing, the actual content was somewhat boring. The Ice Cube on the Eames one, however, is solid. Take a look.

I got into Stones Throw late, around the time of My Vinyl Weighs a Ton (1999). Back then it represented, at least to me, the Bay Area hip-hop scene and artists like label founder Peanut Butter Wolf, Lootpack, Rasco, Quasimoto/Madlib etc. Now the team is based in LA and is releasing music from some of my favorite new artists like Dam-Funk.

It’s been 15 years of great music and they’re throwing a party on December 22nd at the Exchange. Special pre-sale tickets are on sale now for this event which promises to be epic.

Check out this bird’s eye map of Santa Monica as it appeared in 1877. Because it was so sparsely populated, it’s easy to see the configuration of the streets (most of which is still there), and imagine how the city has grown in the last 130+ years. The biggest obvious change is that Wilshire, Santa Monica, Olympic, Pico, etc. were substituted for their original state names such as Oregon and Utah. Click for the larger version.
