Is it possible to eat FOUR original Kalbi Burgers in 10 minutes? Finding the answer to that question is what the Kalbi Burger Challenge is all about.

On the afternoon of July 24th, 2011 (Sunday), the inaugural Kalbi Burger Challenge will pit Koreatown’s top eaters in a contest to see who loves the hood’s favorite burger so much that they can eat four in one go.

Specifically, the WINNER will be the competitor who is first to finish four (4) of the signature burgers OR whoever eats the most of those burgers within the contest time period of 10 minutes.

The PRIZE is not only the prestige of being forever known as the winner of the inaugural Kalbi Burger Challenge. The winner is also guaranteed a complimentary all-you-can-eat meal at the next competitive eating challenge hosted by the Visit Koreatown organization.

Ever in the mood to go back to the 50′s? Perhaps go on a date with Pinky Tuscadero or perhaps go back in time to sock-hops, derbies and 45 rpm records being played from a jukebox.

Well Cafe 50′s is just that spot. The latest location of the LA-based mini chain opened four months ago and located across from LACC. This diner will definitely take you back to the 50s with classic shakes, fountain drinks, and burgers. It is a throwback to the era of the “All American” wholesome family and when greasers, as seen in the movie Grease, were the teen rebels. The whole place is plastered with 50′s memorabilia such as posters, album covers, vintage soda pop signs, “I Like Ike” buttons and wall-o-matics.

LA Graffiti Girls, a site, or blogumentary site, is mainly focused on documenting the lives of and highlighting female graffiti artists and artists in LA. For this post, LA Graffiti Girls has conducted yet another great interview with female writer, graffiti artist and curator…Opia-FDS

Q: What or who has inspired you to pursue graffiti art?

A: I’ve always seen it while riding in cars as a little child. I’d always try and pronounce the names of the tags, would rubber neck to see the colors of a piece, and would try to copy the characters I seen on a wall production on paper. I found that other friends of mine were interested in graffiti while I attended high school, so we all inspired each other. My circle of friends that were into graffiti art expanded, and I got to meet talented artists that have left a footprint in my art walk. However, I attribute most of my inspiration to Duem, a natural-born artist, who influenced me in many ways.

Q: How long have you been painting? As a writer? As an artist?

A: I’ve been painting for as long as I can remember. Whether it was using tempera paint as a child, to my present use of aerosol. As a kid, I would always be drawing, coloring, painting, or scribbling on something. As a writer, I started tagging in 1999, but I started painting about 2001, so it’s been about 10 years so far. I started entering the urban/street art gallery world around 2003. My first show ever was a collaborative all-female show called “Wonder Women – The Girls of Graff “ curated by Mario Ybarra Jr. of Slanguage Studios and held at Homeland in Long Beach, CA.

FatCap is a site dedicated to bringing you graffiti and street-art. They have been sharing their passion since 1998.

Founded at a time when digital cameras didn’t even exist, FatCap is an old-time player. At the beginning, it was a simple photo gallery web-page where they’d post the pictures taken while skipping school. Later, in 2001, it became an interactive portal where artists could have their own page, at a time when neither blogs nor MySpace and Facebook existed. Since then, it has kept growing and gathering a strong and faithful community.

Skate All Cities recently did an interview with a fella I am sure many on LA Taco and Los Angeles alone are no strangers to.  This cat has been damaging LA and putting in mad work for the graff scene for nearly three decades.  As one of the original bus bombers in LA, HAEL is still putting in work, going on mad strong and repping LA to the fullest.  With a crazy traveling schedule, early morning sessions, afternoons of debauchery, pool-sharking at night, after midnight painting missions, stealing girlfriends, multiple orgies and crazy rock-style rendezvous; this GO TIME-NON-SLEEPING-POOL-SHARKING-LA BYRD managed to take some time off to sit with Skate All Cities and answer some questions to bring you an exclusive interview.

The Skate All Cities team is proud to announce the HAELER interview for you on this Monday morning.  This interview has been a long time coming and is well worth the wait.  For those of you who haven’t followed us on Twitter and caught a sneak peek of the HAELER interview, I had to transcribe everything from paper to computer in order to make this happen, so hopefully all you bitches appreciate it.

Even if you’re not a graffiti writer you might recognize the name HAELER through our first ever graffiti pro model board drop a couple years back or you might have seen it firsthand throughout the streets of Los Angeles and New York.  We had a chance to chop it up with him and talk about his background history with both skateboarding and graffiti, how he use to skate with Lance Mountain in Alhambra, as well as how he created one of the largest (one-man) rollers known throughout the history of the LA River.  There are more skater writers out there more than you can ever imagine son, I told you so.  On a totally irrelevant topic, I did steal your photos from your Flickr account and didn’t give you credit for it, so thank you.

What do you write and what crews do your represent?
I write HAELER, HAELONE, HAONE, HAELISM and I rep TNT, OTR, AL, MSK, LOD, DMS and the mobb BTM.

I’m an Eastsider (Boyle Heights), East Los, Downtown LA. Born and raised.

You came from a couple generations of graffiti writers that have called it quits, so what keeps you going?

By now, some may have already heard of Kalbi Burger. And why not? Since its opening on June 14th, Kalbi Burger has been creating a buzz around town, especially in the area where it’s located – Koreatown.
