Kalbi Burger ~ Best New Burger Joint In K-Town

By now, some may have already heard of Kalbi Burger. And why not? Since its opening on June 14th, Kalbi Burger has been creating a buzz around town, especially in the area where it’s located – Koreatown.

As soon as I heard of the joint I had to head on over there and try their burgers. I met up with my boy, the none other King of Bling – Ben Baller. Both of us being K-Town natives and glad there was a burger joint in K-Town, we had to scope it out.

It is on Wilshire Blvd. and Wilton Place…inside the little plaza. As I walked in I was greeted immediately. I nodded my head, smiled in acknowledgment and looked around first to get a feel of the place. The walls are painted a nice rich red that I liked very much. There were some mirrors on a wall, a large built in wall clock and a few cool looking tables. I was glad to find no TV either to distract me from enjoying my meal.

Okay, time to order, albeit I knew what I wanted- their signature Kalbi Burger. I kept wanting to change my mind because I was tempted to try their other burgers. But I stuck to my guns and ordered the Kalbi Burger Combo. I’ll have to save the other for my next visits…if the burger was good, that is.

While ordering, Hawk (the owner), walked over really quick, welcomed us and immediately went back to hustling on the grill. I was impressed to see the owner behind the kitchen. Now-a-days, you hardly ever witness that any more. I also liked the kitchen being in plain view and open. One can watch their burger being prepared fresh.

Pupusa Festival – Macarthur Park

Come on down today to Mac Arthur Park in Los Angeles for their fourth annual Pupusa Festival. The festival is dedicated to celebrating El Salvador‘s national dish, la pupusa!

They will also be offering other traditional Salvadorean dishes such as: Platanos fritos (fried plaintains), mariscadas, casamientos and an array of other Salvadorean dishes. So swing on by and get your pupusa fix on.

Mexico beats France 2 – 0

What a game on Thursday. Tensions ran high as everyone watched both teams play whole-heartedly but Mexico, who dominated most of the game, ended up rising above their complacent way of playing and won. The momentum for France immediately declined as they felt their opportunity to advance fade away after Javier Hernández, the 22-year-old “Chicharito” from Guadalajara, Mexico scored the first goal.

The crowd at La Guelaguetza, located in my home hood of Korea-Town, went buck wild…cheering, screaming, horn blowing, waving flags, whistling, jumping up and down and hugging and high-fiving each other. When Cuauhtémoc Blanco scored the second goal, sealing Mexico’s victory – well…you can just imagine.

I have been to several spots to go watch the games and honestly, none have been as fun, as packed and in great spirits as La Guelaguetza.

And tomorrow…I will definitely be found at La Guelaguetza once again to watch Mexico’s 2nd game against France. Solo or along with friends, I am rolling through to enjoy some good food, good hospitality and good vibes. With a nice World Cup menu on deck, great specials, great vibes, a 150 inch screen, and screaming fans, there is no other place I’d rather be to watch the game.

So if anyone wants to enjoy the game tomorrow in the midst of some crazy Mexican rowdy fans, swing on by to La Guetlaguetza in Korea Town. Come eat, drink, cheer, meet peeps and watch Mexico beat France like it was Cinco de Mayo.

The Most Expensive Cup of Coffee in the World is made from poop…

YES everyone…pooped out coffee…

While watching the the World Cup opening game of Mexico vs South Africa on Friday at La Guelaguetza, one of my friend’s mentioned something about the most expensive coffee in the world made out of pooped out coffee beans. I was like whaaaa….???

Extremely intrigued, I immediately looked it up upon getting home, in disbelief of course, and lo and behold, found it was true.

Apparently, this coffee, named Kopi Luwak, is coffee that is made up from defecated coffee berries that the Asian Palm Civet could not digest. The coffee is said to run you roughly $30.00 – $50.00 a cup of coffee or $300.00 – $500.00 a pound.

10 Day Nude Protest ~ Beijing

A woman strips naked and locks herself in a metal cage for 10 days?? Sounds like something some of us may be into right? I guess I am speaking for myself here.

Anywho – Chinese artist and “blogger”, Hairong Tiantian, is committing herself to a 10 day protest in an oddly shaped metal cage, in the nude, in the streets of Beijing. Her installation/art performance is situated in the art district of Dashanzi, known as 798 Art Zone. It is to protest over womens’ roles in China and is an expression for women to walk free from their dependence on men.

This is not the first time Hairong does a stunt, I mean, art installation such as this. In another installation, Hairong partnered with performance artist, Ye Fu, to live in a glass case for a one month-long exhibition designed to “shock” their audience and make them think about the changes that have taken place in Chinese society.

On another occasion, she also rose to some fame a few years back when she blogged and requested men to send in pictures of “soft-ons”? What is a “soft-on” you ask? c’mon now…should I explain? Well she received well over 2,000 pictures of men in their aummm…limpness. And of course men, who can never seem to follow instructions (right women?), sent in some, you guessed it, in their erect stage. To that she is quoted saying:

I think an erection is just a moment. I want to see how men are most of the time, but I may compare these pictures with the erect ones in the future…An erect penis is a momentary power, it doesn’t make any huge change. – Hairong Tiantian

I wonder if she emphasized HUGE.

But I can’t really blame the guys to follow instructions. The pictures she has on her blog are very provocative, seductive, sexy, hot, sensuous, spicy, steamy…yeah…aumm..oops! heh heh, got carried away there for a bit, sorry. Bottom-line, she is pretty damn hot and likes to be in the nude!

Did I mention she is also a former magazine model?

During her 10-day nude cage performance/protest, she will be pushed around by a man, who kindly volunteered, throughout the streets of Beijing.
