Actually, it is LAX that has taken quite a few bites out of Westchester over the years . . . to the tune of thousands of homes and residents removed and the devastation of its central business district so LAX could expand. And of course, each expansion is the “last one”. . . years ago the City of LA promised Westchester residents that Palmdale “Intercontinental” Airport would take on air traffic after the number 40 million annual passengers at LAX was reached. As we know, that never happened . . . Palmdale ‘Regional’ Airport is virtually unused and air traffic at LAX grew to over 60 million annual passengers years ago. LAX’s current goal is to handle 78 million annual passengers a year. The City of LA and the LA Chamber of Commerce somehow think it’s a good idea to keep expanding the only major airport from Central California to the Mexican border . . .instead of developing other viable alternatives. Greedy, yes. Prudent, no.

Oh really? It’s more like Westchester that feeds LAX. What on earth makes you think we benefit one bit from all the traffic that constantly glogs our streets, both residential and commercial as well as the illegal parking on our residential streets by people too cheap to park in the paid parking lots that surround the airport? People coming to/leaving the AP don’t stop to shop in Westchester, they are all going somewhere else and are in a big hurry to get there!

Nice try at spin-doctoring though. You need new, or at the very least informed, writers!

LOVE IT! WE NEED MORE AND LARGER SIGNS LIKE THAT AROUND THIS AREA!

LAX pro-expansionsist are gambling with the economy! When all of our eggs are in one basket it is a recipe for disaster. Instead of even further gridlocking the westside and forcing people from all over Southern California to spend hours of their time getting to LAX (and the transportation dollars) we need to have multiple airports. This costs individuals and businesses alike. We all pay for the gridlock costs of difficulting getting around the area. Further, it’s cheaper to develop air capacity in the other areas. We need to look 25-50 years out and realize that capacity will never be available in a large enough quantity at LAX. The sky above LAX is already very crowded and even the FAA and pro-expansionist for LAX can not expand the sky…

LAX is feeding on the neighborhoods of PDR and Westchester. We are shouldering all the expense of bad city planning and irresponsible decisions made by greedy politicians now and in the past. Los Angeles is the only major city in the world that has only one airport. Every other major city has at least two- or three. Instead, all of the air traffic for Southern California is concentrated at LAX; making it a HUGE terrorist target and creating grid-lock on our freeways and streets. The local economy of both PDR and Westchester was completely devastated by LAX’s last “modernization and expansion” plan when over 4000 homes were destroyed. Local businesses were left to rot. Now, because the city is broke, the power that be want to “expand” LAX again- how much blood do they want? Why should two tiny residential neighborhoods have to suffer so much? The PR machine has created the myth that the more traffic that comes into LAX, the more the local chamber of commerce wins. This is untrue. No one traveling in/out of LAX spends any money in these neighborhoods-all they do is pollute and clog the streets and freeways surrounding LAX. This time around, the public relations campaign for “modernizing” LAX is SOOOOO slick that even the media; the people who should be questioning the ill-fated logic of expanding an airport that is already surrounded by gridlock– write stupid and uniformed articles like this one.

The true title of this should be “LAX Seeks to Eliminate Westchester.” How many other areas of Los Angeles have lost 33% of their community? Hundreds of families have been forceably moved out and replaced by gridlock traffic and pollution (from increased traffic and increased airport operations). It is absolutely insane to keep putting all our eggs in one basket.

In the true spirit of safety (community, city, and airport) if LAX were to be shut down by a terrorist attack where then would we go? Without infrastructure on a regional airport basis (Ontario, Palmdale), air traffic and travellers could not be tranferred to those locations and airtravel would almost cease in and out of LA. Also, 80% of the nation’s air traffic is handled by only 35 of the nation’s airports. Recent government reports say our skies are reaching saturation. So why continue to bring in more flights into LAX? It is time to spread the traffic around to smooth out the air traffic congestion.

And what about the “nimby’s” in Burbank? They don’t seem to want jets coming in and leaving at all hours like LAX. Why don’t we see the media focusing on them?

I say let’s put up as many of these signs as we can, especially facing LAX and let them know it is not okay to kill a community that has suffered for over 40 years with airport expansions. It’s time to get the real facts and not editorialize based on the opinions of media and organizations that are controlled by those wanting expansion and ultimately enlarge their wallets!

I can’t speak for wodziwob but I think the title was referencing the fact that the no expansion sign is on top of a building which does ‘airport offices’. in any case thanks to the community for all this good info!

Those signs have been there for quite some time and give me a chuckle every time i pass them! For the record I wholeheartedly concur with my neighbors, but a little irony is always fun.

The building with the sign on it along with the one in the foreground will very likely be demolished if airport officials have their way.

The FAA and Downtown LA Chamber fill the newspapers with lies stating that the north airfield is unsafe and at the same time the FAA staffs the control tower with 32 controllers instead of the 47 the tower is certified for.

Civilized societies build world-class airports in the middle of nowhere where there is room for them. LA’s plans to cram more traffic into it’s one shabby little airport have nothing to do with safety, responsible planning, or passenger convenience. This is a city driven by greed and nothing more.
