    You see this clown motif everywhere in LA Chicano artwork. Especially the crying clown. I was wondering if any of you have information on it’s origins/significance/symbolism in respect to the Chicano experience….

    this is my neighborhood mascot, the circus liquor clown. it was featured in the movie clueless when the main character was mugged there. as for the crying clown, it could be an extension of the don quixote tragic hero concept which permeates Spanish and Latin American literature, the sort of accidental anti-hero. dunno, but do ask Gustavo!
