Comedy of Errors ~ Shakespeare by the Sea ~ Hermosa Beach
Combining the physical comedy enjoyed on that episode of Three’s Company we saw 1,000 times (okay, that was all of them) with the fantastic instincts of well-trained, seasoned actors given freedom in rehearsel, the cast of Shakespeare by the Sea’s Comedy of Errors brought the Bard’s words to life in an exciting, often ribald manner last Thursday in Hermosa Beach.
The show, which switches nightly with Hamlet, would be equally enjoyable even if it was not free. The cast is fantastic, staying just short of going over the top, necessary for Shakespeare’s lighter works. Special props go to John E. Farrell, who literally goes red in the face while confusing us between our Antipholi. Winks to gorgeous Corina Bower who couldn’t understand why we wanted to try on her dress.
Go see one of Shakespeare by the Sea’s parkside productions tonight with the date of your choice (you couldn’t handle the bat we’d pick), just make sure you pack enough wine to really feel it, cuz you’ll have no clue what the fuck anyone is saying onstage. The summer season is scheduled currently until August 12th.
