Dia de la Independencia ~ Puerto Vallarta, Mex.
As sorry I was to miss the Banksy Barely Legal show last weekend, my priority was a family birthday in Jalisco, fortunately putting me in place to rage in Puerto Vallarta centro zocalo for El Grito, celebrating Father Miguel Hidalgo’s historic call for independence in Dolores, Mexico in 1810, leading to the eventual overthrow of Spanish and Creole colonial forces in 1821.
The rain, coming down in sheets and flooding the streets couldn’t stop the cumbia beat. We danced, we sang, we poured beer on our heads, stumbled down the street, narrowly missed a catfight (video to come), and fortunately stayed outta jail ourselves. Unlike the Day of the Virgin Festival we remember a couple Decembers back, the elaborate fireworks tower did not set any palm trees on fire… “enough safe and sane, it’s time for dumb and dangerous!”
