I suppose you could say that, and hey even I myself happen to think the screen prints are done rather well - but then, I see this guy (Correct me if I am wrong, I believe its MBW and if not I apologize in advance) using images made by Keith Haring and slapping his name on them and I cant help but find myself a little irritated.

You can say that images of Bowie and Hendrix are great because they inspire "protest and change" - but then, what am I to make of the images of Heath Ledger directly after his death which seem to be more exploitation then anything else, or Britney Spears.

I could read into it and say thats its about how sick consumer culture is or any number of things, or go the easy route and say its a image with no substance at all.

I understand that all art can carry a deeper meaning if we chose to look deeper then the surface and acknowledge the work and concept behind it. I wont argue that at all, but these tabloid photos just don't do it for me.

As far as West Sides comment - I don't go over other peoples work, nor do I make alterations to it or take it down.

I might not be feeling his current posters or process, but he has just as much right as anyone else to put them up and contribute work to the city.

He is doing his own thing and getting up, which I can respect, even if it's not suited to my taste.

And, for the record - He has created images prior to these that I did like quite a bit. It's nothing personal, and I wish the guy well - its just different strokes for different folks.

I agree with WW. Maybe the art is not great but we can always use being reminded of true visionaries like Bowie and Jimi Hendrix, we're not talking "celebrities" here, these are music legends of the 1970's, a time of street protest and change!!! We could use some of that fire today.

I'd rather look at this then a utility box. If you don't like it, next time you see it, add to it, fuck it up, make it better...
