Ignacio, this is exactly what I’m against. While president Bush is destroying historic neighborhoods in Baghdad and sends little mocosos to kill innocent humans our media cover’s our horny mayor and his affairs. Our barrio is under attack by local politicians don’t go around destroying your own. CASA 0101 is a diamond in the rough heights of the eastside. My theatre group sprouted out of CASA and so have many other talents.
We are here for the community, and we are the community.

Eddie Padilla and Josefina Lopez are beautiful people trying to help others shine – i live very close to Casa and have personally witnessed very young non white people taking writing workshops there (which are ridiculously cheap if not free for youth) i want to know how many times has Ignacio bothered to knock on Casa’s door, because i, and many other brown people – pochos, pochas and otherwise have been received with the proverbial open arms. And Ignacio, don’t hate on Pochos – you are obviously one if you are using a word like “gentrified”.

I agree w/Ignacio. I grew up in Boyle Heights and actually grew up several blocks from casa 101. I had no idea what it was since I had never heard of it. There are several cultural/social organizations involved within this community which are very vocal in inviting those within and without the community but casa 101 seems to be reclusive in terms of knowing what exactly is going on. There have been many times that I have returned to Boyle Heights and see an array of people (mostly white even though that shouldn’t matter but point it out for the sake of Ignacio’s comments)but no advertisement ever done. As a result, I went to their webpage which is not detail oriented and emailed the contact they list several times in hopes of attaining any info and never received a response. While I do support such ventures as these, it is also dissapointing to see that many of us who grew up (while we may not live there anymore or do)the accesibility factor remains a problem which is where Ignacio’s argument relies upon and is evident as being relevant!!!!

Saludos, Ignacio. Thank you for your frank comments about CASA 0101. Contrary to your impressions, CASA 0101 actually serves an almost entirely East of the river crowd. I agree that not enough people know about CASA 0101 in Boyle Heights and we are working hard to change that. Please accept this as an open invitation to visit our theater and discover what we are truly about, and so that we can talk about the play that I assume you are writing depicting the vatos in Estrada Courts. I look forward to reading it.

With respect to your feelings and opinions about Edward and Casa, Ignacio, TACO is proudly multi-racial and multi-cultural, with plenty of ‘crackers’ and ‘pinche gueros’ here, hoping to unite cultures that powers that be want to separate and keep separate. I hope that doesn’t keep you from enjoying the site in the future. I personally believe our different ‘races’ are much stronger standing together against greed than apart fighting about skin color, history, and partisan politics. Together Angelenos Can Overcome. Together All Cultures Overcome. Together All Can Overcome.

this guy edward is a joke, and so is casa theatre You can walk around the barrio and ask people about casa theatre and they don’t know what the hell that is because the close the door on all of us, they keep it open for those on the other side of the river lo pochos…y los crackers…that placed has bin gentrified.
