This was such a delight to read. I grew up just a few miles from there, and spent my late teen years and early twenties hiking around Griffith Park, Lake Hollywood, etc. just exploring. We often drove "just to see where the road goes." It was so much fun to drive those super long roads through multiple towns. Ah. And, of course we lived on Henry's Tacos and various burger and/or burrito stops. As far as the D-listers, or even A-listers for that matter, the assessment was always made of anyone, regardless of whether or not they were on a list...would they look me in the eye, and have a humorous conversation...because back then, everything was funny and magical.

Actually, I've hiked around Lake Hollywood and seen others jogging and hiking as well. BUT, after 9/11 that came to a halt because there were fears of terrorists doing something (?). I've heard that recently most of the lake path has been reopened. You might update us on this.

I didn't know about the St. Francis Dam, but here's a youtube of the Baldwin Hills Dam in 1963...in that case the collapse was caused by oil wells that lowered the land on one side...I was pretty much weened on that story.
