Lovie Yancey ~ RIP
South LA’s own Lovie Yancey, founder of the Fatburger hamburger chain, passed away at the age of 96 over the weekend.Here at TACO we don’t just love tacos, we love all street food, and LA ranks up at the very top of hamburger towns, thanks in no small part to the efforts of Mrs. Yancey. She started Fatburger in South LA on Western near 31st Street and later opened a legendary location on La Cienega in Beverly Hills. Lovie donated more then $1.7m to City Of Hope in 1986, and in 1990 sold Fatburger to an investment group. Yancey is survived by three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The original location (above) has been bought by a developer who is not planning to preserve the original Fatburger.

This is sad. I dont live near LA or even USA but this the commont thing to do. Developers always get rid of the original structures when buying old places with inmense history. I think they should at least keep the original structure and fix it give it some color and then do whatever you want around it. This place might have [I dont doubt it] sentimental value on the people around the neighborhood and that cant be turn down even if the building isnt there anymore people will always use it as a reference and maybe the new name wont even be remembered.
