When I came back from my 1st trip to Taiwan in the 90's, I was pleased to have plenty of opportunity to practice my Mandarin in MP and thereabouts (it was known as Xiao Taibei, "Little Taipei, at the time). But I hardly ever hear it spoken by the local Chinese people anymore, and apparently Xiao Taibei now refers to Hacienda heights.
