Meeting of Styles ~ Los Angeles
Crewest Gallery, Friends of the Los Angeles River (FoLAR) and Man One Design team up with the International Meeting of Styles to launch the “Meeting of Styles: LA” event on the weekend of September 28 – 30, 2007. Over one hundred artists from Los Angeles were joined by visiting artists from San Diego, the Bay area, and as far away as Sweden and Germany to spray paint a 10,000 square foot section of the L.A. River concrete waterway at the Arroyo Seco Confluence in Highland Park.

So I’m asked by a few heads to stop by L.A’s landmark event to stop by, have a few beers and shoot the shit. As soon as I got there I was very happy to see that this event was very well organized. Parking was no problem and everyone was excited to see all their favorite street artist in action.

I was amazed to see L.A’s own graff hero “CHAKA” back in action, kinda gave me flashbacks of my early graff years.

This event was really dope and I was happy to see Mear WCA CBS rocking a 2 story wall! *lit*

One of the coolest heads “VYAL COI” was more than happy to let me take some action shots. No joke the guy is mad cool!

All in all, yes it was a dope event, sure their were some toy taggers with something to prove, but when it came down to the real graff heads, 99.9% were there for the right reasons: to paint, meet new heads, and most of all do their thing without the police giving them hell. Let’s be blunt, this event will be in L.A’s historical books in the future!!!! Again thanks to Man One for letting LATACO share this great event and we wish you the very best in the future….thanks also to all the heads who gave LATACO a warm welcome, we’ll see you all in the future as well, rock on L.A!

Chaka! He tagged my t-shirt back in ‘91, when he was a mere incorrigible youth. Whatever happened to his buddy Sleez?

Art or Vandalsim? Arroyo Seco Mural Disappearances Spark Debate | YORK BLVD. wrote:
[...] While sitting in my office, Googling “Highland Park Los Angeles Gentrification”, vaguely hoping I would find evidence I could sell my little one bedroom for a ridiculous profit to a conceptual artist and move into a bigger space (still in Northeast of course), I ran across a few fellow bloggers who had noticed some disturbing news in the nearby Arroyo Seco. Apparently, Friends of the Los Angeles River put on their “Meeting of Styles L.A.” event at which several well known graffiti artists were cleared to paint on the dapper grey walls of the Arroyo Seco. By almost all accounts, the event was a success both communally and artistically.
