My Favorite Taco ~ Shepard Fairey

Sephard Fairey image from myspace.com

The taco lifestyle crosses all boundaries and includes anyone who wants to be a part of it– emerging art stars born in South Carolina are no exception. Graphic designer Shepard Fairey, who made his name on the streets of LA, is a resident and promoter of our city even when he’s attending art premieres in London or putting his work up on the streets of Copenhagen. A massive influence on street art, our city, and the taco lifestyle as a whole, we’ve been wanting to ask Shep about his favorite taco spots for a long time…

Reached by telephone, Shepard was unequivocal about his favorite taco spot: Cactus Taqueria #1 in Hollywood. His whole crew from his business, Studio Number One, digs the tacos and burritos at Cactus, and can be found there on the regular.

a sell out is someone who compromises his or hers ethics to make a sale…

making it big is just making it big.

    Awesome artist.
His style is so consistent and brutally contrastfull.

I think he is too depressed to create beauty, so he chooses to create motives of his fears instead.

  8. Gravatar

    He has sold out.
I loved the creativity of his original artwork, but he has now become what he originally mocked.
    How sad :(

  9. Gravatar

what a douchebag. and he knows this too.

  10. Gravatar

He isn’t an artist. Her stylizes others artwork, for money.

  11. Gravatar

Lots of people say he’s got no talent but Im yet to see anyone do what he does as good as him.

There will always be hatters out there, no matter what you do or how you do it, as soon as you reach the top people will try to put you back down. Don’t be mad at Fairey because your a nobody sitting at home on your computer and he’s out doing living it up in Paris! keep up the great work!

for the people who don’t know him, it’s easy to judge, but once you do know him, you get it. He’s one of a kind… something you or I will never be, so get over it. OBEY.

  16. Gravatar

His “works” are all copies of old stuff.

Saw you being interviewed by Charlie Rose
    last night in Vancouver,BC.Canada.
It was down to earth interview and your
humbleness and honesty sure came thru.

Keep up the good work.I am confident that the Boston show will be a super smash,I wish I was there.

I am interested in getting a set of the
    signed copy posters.
Could you please let me know how do I go about getting it?

    Love your stuff,keep at it.

“sell out” is another word for “jealous.”
    it’s such a tired phrase.
a successful artist is a beautiful thing. like 1991, the year punk finally broke.

  22. Gravatar

an artist is always inspired by other art. Art can be anything, including your surroundings.
    And who really doesn’t “copy”?
Everyone can’t be original. We all get our ideas from something else, whether it’s a window, a dog, another artist, etc.
I like his artwork, and as an artist, I look up to him.
btw, didn’t he get arrested today or yesterday for graffiti?

  23. Gravatar

what’s the story behind “at the drive in” poster? just interested in it!!!!
    looks good anyway

  24. Gravatar

wow, alot of people are talking trash… well i went to his show at the ICA in boston, and i as an artist was very impressed. it’s hard to even see all the detail in his artwork, even by looking at it for hours, you can always pick-up on something new everytime you see it

This guy is so full of himself. His art had an effect on the election? are you kidding me? it may have sold t-Shirts and prints but seriously folks this guy isn’t some political force hes a guy that repaints images simple. You act like hes the next Worhal.

  26. Gravatar

He is a whore.. his “art” will be forgotten in a couple of years.. the original works and icons he steals from will remain forever. Cultural leech!!

  27. Gravatar

trust me, i love bickering.. and on the subject of OBEY, there are lots to bicker about… but c’mon… this site is about TACOS. I sure love TACOS, maybe as much as retards love grunting. mmm.. tacos…

  28. Gravatar

Mr. Fairey actually got a lucky break. His art wasn’t well known until he posted it in the right place, at the right time – as my color theory professor told us, who is also a street artist.

Taking the face of ‘Andre the Giant’ and making it into the ‘obey’ poster was an interesting idea. But his work is always going to be debated, the same way that we still discuss Van Gogh’s missing ear. Which is why people who say he will be forgotten are wrong.

Btw: Tom’s Taco’s on Beach Blvd. around Anaheim are the best. Any place else is fail.

  29. Gravatar

    fuck art

Personally, I think Shepard Fairey is nothing more then a hack. He stole the image of Obama from the photographer that created it. Let be clear about that! He did not create the image himself. He stole it! He had no right to it, in any way shape or form! All he did was put a photoshop filter on someone elses work, and then called it his art! Am I missing something??? What a bunch of crap! He’s a hack!
