I think Shepard is an amazing artist personally. He went to my high school back in ’82, before i was born, but our art teacher still talks about him. sometimes, we spend whole art classes just discussing Shepard. She has told us that he was amazing back in his high school days, and she knew that. it wasnt till fame hit him that he started using other people’s photo’s for his paintings. Often when we talk about him, my teacher says how mad she is at him for using that Fox news photo (or where ever it’s from…) to paint his poster of Barack Obama. That was what really ruined him.
I personally think that if he just gets back to the basics he could be really amazing. That’s what i would do.
I almost feel like i am following in his foot steps, taking all of the art classes i can, including two AP art classes. The year after next i will be either going to NYU or Rhode Island School of Design for art like Shepard did. it feels weird but i absolutely love the arts and would never give it up.
Shepard, if you’re reading this, Mrs. G says to get your act together :)

Personally, I think Shepard Fairey is nothing more then a hack. He stole the image of Obama from the photographer that created it. Let be clear about that! He did not create the image himself. He stole it! He had no right to it, in any way shape or form! All he did was put a photoshop filter on someone elses work, and then called it his art! Am I missing something??? What a bunch of crap! He’s a hack!

Mr. Fairey actually got a lucky break. His art wasn’t well known until he posted it in the right place, at the right time – as my color theory professor told us, who is also a street artist.

Taking the face of ‘Andre the Giant’ and making it into the ‘obey’ poster was an interesting idea. But his work is always going to be debated, the same way that we still discuss Van Gogh’s missing ear. Which is why people who say he will be forgotten are wrong.

Btw: Tom’s Taco’s on Beach Blvd. around Anaheim are the best. Any place else is fail.
