Ugh, murals are lame? You reject their potential power for socio-political impact? Their aesthetics/beautification power for blighted areas?

Hadley, while I agree that the Californian who fucked up the original mural deserves to have his bitch ass pimped out, please consider the effect of your language; i.e.,”cock-smoking piece of waste”. I think some writers are getting mixed messages. For example, I keep hearing graf artist nowadays preaching that public wall space is free reign and it’s only a matter of time before your get art gets topped. But in the same breathe think this act above is disrespectful. I don’t understand. It’s true that this throw up ruined this piece. However, it’s all fair right? Where do we draw the line of hypocrisy? Sadly, it shows our community that there’s no difference between taggers, gangsters, whatever,,,
I am sure who ever did this could care less what they did. I feel sorry for people that get into art/ graffiti for the wrong reasons.

I completely hear what you’re saying.

We certainly would not want to add to the sense of disrespect these artists must feel. At the same time, I think we’re all angry and disappointed that a beautiful piece that is a part of our daily lives has been touched. I don’t know about you, but I feel the artists were generous enough to give this to us as a city and we’ve all been very disrespected by this act. It only takes one person to fuck up a good thing.

I stop myself short of pointing out that this guy is from up there cuz it doesn’t matter. We are all Californians and people in the end, and wrong is wrong, so people should know his name as a cock-smoking piece of waste with the weakest-ass throw-up of 2008 if he wants to travel freely in our cities and state.

If Retna and Mac or those close to them or the community at large feel strongly about taking this off, we will 100% respect their wishes, as I realize they may have different and deeply personal feelings about their artwork being trashed like this that are not my business.

In the meantime, I would like to leave this to the excellent G@BR!3L to decide the fate of his post.
