Redwood Bar & Grill ~ Downtown
316 W. 2nd St. ~ Downtown Los Angeles, CA 90012 ~ 213-680-2600 (TACO Map)
Downtown’s legendary Redwood Room has been ransacked by a bunch of pirates who swill microbrews instead of grog and munch on plates desgined by a Cobras and Matadors chef until 4 in the morning. TACO stowed away onboard for a secret debut of the gorgeously refurbished space during co-owner Dev’s recent birthday bash, which saw the old warhorse of a bar rocking with Djs and a performance by Phunky Munkey Spankers, under Jolly Rogers and a strong gun powder hold vibe.
The buccaneer-themed bar is ergonomic, as well as great, tasteful fun. There are several rooms and plenty of places to rest drinks and chill out. Officially opening in the middle of September before International-Talk-Like-A-Pirate Day, we think the Redwood is going to be the coming year’s most popular downtown spot to kick it or get rowdy with a small crew, without crushes of scenesters. Catch us here capping off our night after Charlie O’s.

Pretty big, it has a bunch of different rooms. A lounge up front, main bar, booths in the back of that, than a spacious dance room in back. I like that they plan to stay open ’til 4, have cheap drinks, and are supporting a bar trolley for downtown.

[...] Second Stop - THE REDWOOD BAR is a brand new pirate bar that officially opened last night. Just at the foot of Bunker Hill downtown on 2nd and Hill, just out the tunnel that goes under MOCA and the Disney Concert Hall. This place was a posh ass pirate bar with cheap drinks, good metal music, only metal. There were pirate chicks with birds on their shoulder’s and no one was talking to them. This place get points for staying open till 4am. They are taking on the Pantry for late night grub downtown. [...]

We just went last night, it looks nice and simple from the outside, but it was a real treat once you got inside, food is great, bartenders are nice and friendly, crowd is a mix. We really had a good time. shorts and flip flops, or a dress and heels, it all comes together nicely.

Fun, great looking place, but the last couple times I went back the crowd was very fratty, but I always believe it’s who you’re with yourself that dictates a good time, not what others are doing, right?
