Salvage Fashion Show @ First Street Studios ~ Boyle Heights
First Street Studios put on a fashion show for the closing reception of their current exhibit “Salvage.”
The designers included ZAN e.l.a., Marcel deJure, Virginia de la Luna, Orquidia Violeta, OROZCO and many others who used everyday materials such as grocery bags, Trader Joe’s bags, table clothes and everything else in between that could be moulded into a fashion accessory.
Performing before the main attraction the band MEZKLHA kicked of the night with a set that got everyone in the crowed grooving. They set the mood for the rest of the night with their unorthodox style and blend of different musical styles such as drum-n’-bass, cumbia, trip hop and afro-cuban beats.
All of the beautiful models who participated in the show were friends of the designers or students in art classes which the studio offers.
None the less, they all ran the the cat walk like professional models showing strength, passion and confidence in every step they took.
After the show I talked to a mother, who wished to remain nameless, about having her daughter participate in the fashion show; she said she was proud of her daughter.
She was extremely happy to see her daughter strut down the walk way with new found confidence.
It did the mother’s heart well to see her dressed up and for one night, for those few moments down the aisle, to have the world’s attention on her daughter.

I was out of town during the show, I’m so glad I get to see pictures. They show your respect for women. Thanks for another very sensitive report.
