33third ~ Mid City

Local youth crowded into the back area of 33third Records on Sunday the 25th as owner Matt welcomed graffiti artists T-Kid, Vyal, and Mear One to put up pieces on the outside walls.

This Mid City record shop is known in the neighborhood as a great source for spray paints and tips. They’ve also been hosting events and setting up youth graffiti art classes.

DJ Seiichi and DJ Lord Ron kept the chill mood going with some oldies. Seiichi, AKA Grandpa Shig, will be curating shows in the gallery space next door that will soon be opening, hopefully in a month or so. The first show is slated to be a cross-cultural look at calligraphy.

Sketchbooks were passed around freely, and in this case, a Darth Vader helmet became a canvas for one artist.

It was great to see so many people enjoying the afternoon and sharing their creative talents. I’m looking forward to seeing the gallery open and catching more of their future endeavors.

The artwork should be up at 33third for a couple of weeks at least. 33third is located at 5111 W. Pico Blvd.
