A small correction. Both you and Danny refer to the “Makaha Skateboard club.” The club was for people who bought Makaha skateboards. The “Makaha Exhibition Team” was the elite team of skateboarders who demonstrated Makaha skateboards and represented the company in competitions. It was also the first skateboard team. Danny, Woody, Torger, Squeak, John Freis, George Trafton, Jimy Fitzpatrick, Danny Schaefer and Joey Saenz were members of the team, not the club.

Danny truly was a prince among men. He was a gifted, natural athlete with a smooth, easy, powerful style that was all his own. Most of all he was a beautiful person and I feel a profound sadness at his unexpected death.

FYI.. DANNY BEARER passed away sunday Sept 27,2009.. Now don’t you all wish you would have picked his brain more.. The guy was there during the first decade of Skateboarding.. He was a wealth of information.

Hi Danny — i’ll always remember you because you were always a true friend and there aren’t that many of those. Last time we talked you called when Greg and I lived on Malibu Road and you had written a poem, I think (so many years have gone by). I ran into your little brother not so long ago at the baseball cages and it reminded me of all the Danny Bearer stories and some very happy magical times during the late sixties and early seventies. Recently my stepson mentioned that he was (one of the kids) with you on the trip to San Jose del Cabo and told me about it (wow). Greg use to talk about you (maybe with Mark Martin or Keith Anderson, I’m not sure), what a talented athlete and person you were (I can’t remember if it was surfing, skate boarding, or skiing — probably all of them). And my Mom told me she sees your Mom at the old YMCA pool. I think we were at UCLA together for awhile and that may be when I ran into you last. Hope you are good. You are a probably a Saint. Miss you! It has been so many years and times have changed. I never knew you lived on the Seine with Janet. Love, Cindy
