I find that Filets while extremely tender do not have much flavor to them and would think that rib eye steak would make a better upscale taco, Of course I still prefer the carne asada tacos off the taco wagon in Riverside made with marinaded skirt steak and priced at $3.00 each, its the best bargin in town. (3 taco leave this “fat cat” one happy homey)

Hi, I frequently make filet tacos and they are awesome – and it doesn’t take a lot of steak to make lots of tacos- so they shouldn’t be THAT expensive! Check it out…

I tried the filet mingon tacos. They were really not that great. I’d much rather have either a real taco, or a real steak.

Has anyone ever EATEN, one of these expensive tacos, and if so, how was it? Was it worth 20 bucks a pop. I can think of some houses of ill repute in TJ, that cost…, well, never mind. What’s the verdict on these “Killer” tacos, here?????

I totally agree, the price for tacos is getting crazy, considering what goes into them. However, I did find a small place in East LA, near the court house and civic center called Taco Real. They say their beef is natural, the pollo al pastor is made fresh and the tortillas are hand made to order. Even if this all was not true, I’d still love the food there. I think they are the best in LA, period. Anyone care to try to prove me wrong?

I must agree with everyone, these tacos have better be filled with crystals and diamond flakes before a price that high can be tagged. DH, I also agree with you on the Cartel of Tacos. It’s not only their sauces but the preperation and seasoning in the meats…… No there’s more than 1 King?

So, 2 tacos for $38.50 is one taco for $19.25, plus tax, let’s call it $20. For one of those tacos, you could get 20 of the best tacos in town in East LA!

The equation usually goes — the farther away the country of origin of the cuisine is, the more upscale the food. So an expensive taco, say in Uppsala, Sweden, is perfectly justified. But a $40 taco in Brentwood? They have no excuse.

Great points, Erich. I generally find that the more expensive a taco is, the less inspired it tends to be.
