Creepy bedtime stories ~ Boyle Heights

Thanks to our friend at Curbed for unearthing this gem featuring great archival footage of our city in the 1940’s and then a minute or so about Hollywood on trial in the 50’s.

Saturday afternoon the intersection of 6th & Los Angeles Street (Skid Row Los Angeles) was buzzing with the grand opening of the Los Angeles branch of Upper Playground and Estevan Oriol & Mister Cartoon’s The Last Laugh boutique & gallery/bonus spot. The shop was just finished this morning with Toon$, Estevan and the crew pulling one of many all nighters to get the spots complete. Congrats to everyone involved on a successful opening! Another section of Los Angeles to spend your hard earned $$. You have your choice of four space to chose from as well as a Tattoo space that Jack Rudy will occupy for now with other artists schedule to do guest spots

It’s no secret that there are many beautiful spots along the Arroyo Seco, from the Angeles Crest all the way down to the confluence with the LA River.
If you follow the roads north from Highland Park, you will notice the houses getting bigger and the landscape becoming more lush. It’s a bit of a surprise, then, to find this refreshingly ramshackle little park right across the street from a bunch of mansions.
I guess this was a fountain. Once upon a time.
I couldn’t figure out whether this was a figure or an ideogram.
More photos after the jump.
