No Place like Home: The Science of Southern California
Author Ross MacDonald once wrote “There’s nothing wrong with Southern California that a rise in the ocean level wouldn’t cure.” And Andy Warhol, during his more than 15 minutes of fame, said “I love Los Angeles. I love Hollywood. They’re beautiful. Everybody’s plastic, but I love plastic.”

Southern California often gets a bad rap, but First Fridays is here to defend it. This season, six of the region’s top scientists will be discussing the cutting edge of science on issues of importance to Southern Californians and the rest of the world, both today and into the future. If you are interested in earthquakes or emotions, energy or ecosystems, engineering spider webs or enormous black holes, join us for First Fridays in 2010. Believe us, there really is no place like home.

The event celebrates the women of color ARTivist collective’s 13th Anniversary and 8th poetry and arts publication, and is in honor of International Women’s Day, and Women’s Herstory month.  Mujeres de Maiz has a month of events that will also include two group art exhibits, a poetry night as well as possible workshops and other events happening throughout March 2010.  The event is also part of an other Month long series of events; “A Prayer for Juarez.”

Caribbean Dandy is a Tokyo based DJs collective-group heading to LA this month for a series of shows, their first in the USA. Members SATORU FUJII a.k.a Satol F. (Head Case), TETZ MATSUOKA a.k.a Prince Matsuoka (Club Ska-Head Case), Kazuhiro Sudo (3.1 length-The Zoot 16), Txako (Japonicus), Ta-1 (Hansamu Dorobou) are all big names in the rock latino-cumbia-mestizaje DJ scene.
