Hollywood Walk Of Fame 50th Anniversary ~ Hollywood

Hollywood Walk Of Fame’s 50th Anniversary festival is coming up and promises to be filled with entertainment and festivities from 11am to 6pm.  Although I have a feeling none of the old street performers and characters will be invited since they’ve already been shooed off the Walk.  Who knows, maybe they’ll be able to make a cameo and actually bring some lighthearted laughs back to the street.

From the official website:

Drawing inspiration from these visitors, the next milestone in the year-long celebration of the Walk of Fame is the “Walk the Walk” community festival on Sunday, July 25.  From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. there will be free entertainment and activities throughout Hollywood honoring the five categories of the Walk of Fame – Motion Picture, Television, Radio, Recording and Live Theatre.  There are four anchor locations for the celebration – Hollywood & Highland Center and the TV Guide Studio located there, the Egyptian Theatre, Capitol Records building and the Montalban Theatre.  Beyond these four, businesses and attractions throughout the area are joining in the festival creating their own specials honoring the 50th Anniversary of the Walk of Fame.  More information can be found in the Community Festival section which will be updated regularly including a schedule of entertainment and events and listings for participating businesses.

HARD LA Cancelled ~ Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES –

HARD LA M.I.A. Saturday July 17th has been cancelled, but not due to the lack of support or the full approval from the personnel at the City of Los Angeles and California State Parks who have signed off on our comprehensive security plan. We have decided to instead produce one massive event on August 7th at the same amazing location, the Los Angeles State Historic Park in Downtown Los Angeles.

We continue to work closely with LAFD, LAPD, City of Los Angeles, and California State Parks who continue to support all HARD events and have approved our plan to operate the HARD SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL at the Los Angeles State Historic Park on August 7th 2010 featuring Soulwax, Crystal Castles, Major Lazer, Erol Alkan, Diplo, Digitalism and more. HARD NYC M.I.A. in New York July 24 at Governors Island also continues as scheduled.

Tickets for HARD LA are automatically valid for the HARD SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL. Additional refund instructions can be obtained HERE.

LA River declared ‘traditional navigable waters’ ~ Los Angeles

The EPA officially declared the entire LA River ‘traditional navigable waters’ leading the way for the 51 mile urban watershed to be protected under the Clean Water Act.

“We’re moving away from the concrete,” said U.S. EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson.  “This is a watershed as important as any other.  So we are going to build a federal partnership to empower communities .… We want the L.A. River to demonstrate how urban waterways across the country can serve as assets in building stronger neighborhoods, attracting new businesses and creating new jobs.”

Although various groups looking forward to this declaration are thrilled, many who know the LA River well and live nearby and/or around it may have other thoughts.

Alleged Cat Graffiti Artist Arrested ~ Los Angeles

Thanks to quick thinking and investigative work by the LAPD (sarcasm) the ‘dangerous’ person allegedly behind the cat graffiti on LA freeways has been arrested.  Forget about gang violence, domestic violence, celebrities getting off the hook, an increase in robberies and shootings and Banksy and Shepard Fairey getting the pass; whoever is putting up these cute cats is much more of a threat and needed to be taken down.

The alleged suspect has been charged with doing $15,000 worth of damage, is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail and if convicted is looking at six years and four months along with a suspended driver’s license.

At least now the streets are safe. (more sarcasm)

LA Coliseum Imposes Temporary Ban on Raves ~ Los Angeles

photos by RATHANDSOME via The Streets

Looks like ravers will have to go elsewhere with their candy jewelry and glowsticks.  After a 15-year old girl died of a suspected overdose at this past weekend’s ELECTRIC DAISY CARNIVAL; the LA Coliseum imposed a temporary ban on raves while they investigate the situation.  Apparently the minimum age was 16.

Almost 185,000 people attended the two day fest.  More than 200 people were injured and 100 were taken to area hospitals.  In addition, the LAPD arrested 118 people on various offenses.
