Taco News Roundup ~ August 27th, 2008

It’s been an up and down week in the taco world, as corporate entities continue to try to profit on the goodwill and hunger of taco lovers worldwide. Do your part and shun fake taco shops that reheat their “meat” in plastic bags etc. Likewise, be aware that the hustling taquero may not have insurance, and might be the victim of a horrible crime like our taco-brother in South Carolina (see story below). Don’t be afraid to tip your taquero when you can! That’s the 401k, insurance, and bonus in that oversized styrofoam cup.

Casitas Taco Al Carbon ~ Burbank

405 N Victory Blvd ~ Burbank, CA 91502 ~ (818) 848-3242

Casitas Taco Al Carbon is a steak and potatoes kind of place. The staff are friendly and on a first name basis with neighborhood regulars who keep on coming back for good reason. We tasted the beefed up steak tacos and, of course, the grilled cebollitas. The carne was choice and the taco was stacked to generous proportion. If you are searching for an alchoholic beverage to wash it down, visit the liquor store next door which stocks tasty Asian beers like tall Tiger Beer. Despite being a chain, Casitas Taco Al Carbon in Burbank has a good local vibe. The salsa bar is a bonus. Provecho!

Baseball players are now literally (click the video above for proof) autographing tacos instead of baseballs in order to sate their fans’ lust for both tacos and souvenirs. Save Sacto’s Taco Trucks ~ Northern Neighbors

The taco wars are underway in our great state’s capitol. This anti-taco aggression simply cannot stand, as we must not allow California’s capitol city to set the tone for future taco legislation. From our friends at Yum Taco:

Recently, the Sacramento City Council almost-unanimously enacted an ordinance drastically restricting the ways in which mobile food vendors - principally taco trucks - may do business in the city. Even though the vast majority of Sacramento’s taco trucks (including all those relied upon by downtown and Natomas third-shift employees) do business from private property - parking lots where they’ve received owner permission to be - the new city regulations basically tell property owners that they don’t know what’s best for themselves, and enact all sorts of new rules on the trucks.

We feel strongly that all lovers of tacos must stand together and fight the anti-taco forces as a united front. Why don’t you take a few minutes from your day, and sign the petition at the link above. Remember, you’re not just saving the taqueros of Sacto, you’re helping to set a taco tone for years to come.
