The New L.A. Mural Ordinance Will Come to a Vote on August 20th ~ Get Involved Now!

10:57 AM PDT on August 16, 2013

If you're a reader of this website, you may have some affinity for public art. You may be aware that the City of Los Angeles has banned all public and private murals for the past 10 years, as part of a blanket effort against massive billboard blight that was plaguing the city.

After years of hard work from many people in the arts community, most memorably by artist SABER who protested via skywriting planes in Downtown Los Angeles almost two years ago, the City Council will finally vote on a revised ordinance which will allow murals but still restrict billboard and commercial advertising.

Our friends at Urban Heart PR have passed on the following information about the vote, and what you can do before and during the proceedings to help influence the council to pass this ordinance and restore Los Angeles to the ranks of the great muralistic cities.
