Cops Broke Up A Massive Photowalk This Weekend That Combines Car Culture With Street Photography (Photo Essay)

    [dropcap size=big]H[/dropcap]ave you noticed?

There are even more lowriders hittin’ the streets than there were a few months ago.

Your calendar is probably starting to fill up with events over the weekends.

You might have been recently photographed actually enjoying yourself.

Los Angeles is starting to look a lot more like it did before the pandemic.

In one of the more recent examples of L.A. healing, last weekend, hundreds of people spilled onto the streets of DTLA near One Stop Film Lab, the starting location for Conquer L.A., a popular hybrid photo walk that brings both car and photography enthusiasts together on the streets of Los Angeles.

Equipped with a laptop, mixer and digital turntables strapped to a grocery shopping cart, DJ/photographer 6AM led the crowd from One Stop Film Lab on a photographic journey last Sunday. Down the block a few low riders and niche cars filled up the street.

Music echoed through the streets of DTLA's Historic Core as hundreds of people walked freely through the busy streets. The group hit 4th Street before travelling west, stopping at familiar city locations in Los Angeles along the way to snap photos.

When the group got to Grand Ave, some people rested while others shot models and cars. The sounds of police sirens barely exceeded the decibel level of the music blaring but the police made their presence known in other ways. I left before things got broken up but based on photos that I saw, police cleared the scene with patrol cars.

The group that organized this weekend’s photo walk told me via DM that it was their first meetup since summer of 2019 and there are plans to do more monthly.

    Welcome to summer 2021.
