I was raised on the East Coast, land of rusted-out cars. You’d almost never see a car older than 8 years old on the road. Most cars were less than 5 years old.

If you did see a car that was 20, 30, 40 years old, it was some immaculately restored collector’s vehicle out for a Sunday drive in the summer. And that was like spotting a UFO.

But in California you will occasionally see cars 30,40,50 years old that have been in continuous service. Daily drivers first built when Harry Truman was President. People just keep fixing them, no matter how destroyed the finish is.

Clem here is about the oldest one I’ve ever seen. This is no restoration job, kids. This sucker has done some hard work in its day, and is still going.

    Amazing.

They just don’t make ‘em like they used to, Scott!
