Top Ten Tacos ~ Westside Taquerias Edition

LA’s #1 taco hunter, Bandini, is back with another top ten for us. This time he focuses on the taco-loving but underserved West Side, which in this case means, basically, West of Fairfax, or something like that. Ah yes…the Oaxacan corridor. Better moles than tacos…but I’d hit La Flama before I hit Pili’s. Juquila is my spot, but yeah, I might skip the tacos for something with mole, though their truck is killer. El Charro should be in here repping Mar Vista, La Playita should be repping Venice. Monte Alban has some great goat tacos. And it’s gone downhill since the fire but Lares has those bomb-ass carnitas! There’s also that joint on the corner of Pico and Sawtelle…Las ferias, great overlooked spot. Cant wait for taco trucks Westside! Bandini hit me up, let’s go taco-crazy someday soon!

Where’s Tito’s?
Yeah, West LA is much better for Oaxacan food than for tacos, but this list is cool, I haven’t been to most of these places. My favorite Oaxacan place is Guelaguetza, but I don’t know if that counts since there’s also one in Koreatown.

I like Que Ricos at Soto and Wabash, but I only ever had the fish taco, because that’s the only kind of sentient being I consume normally.

None of you have obviously ever been to Taco Real in East LA! These are the best, hands down. These Westside taco shacks just don’t know…

Tacos Por Favor has got to be the most overrated taqueria in the city. If you like bland, overcooked meat and a restaurant that caters to the privileged Santa Monica set that’s too scared to go to a real taco place, then it’s great. Otherwise, it sucks.

The taco community has to go try Tacos Don Jorge at 8693 Venice Blvd. in LA. You guys are missing out on some good food and everything there in under $5, now who doesn’t need that during these hard economic times. Everything is prepared daily and grilled as you order. Meats are marinated with our family marinade 24hrs before its cooked. I want you guys to try it out for yourself. Hope you enjoy!
