Transport Fantasy Map ~ Los Angeles

Imagine if every line on this concept map by Numan Parada were real. Subways and light rail connecting the entire city, even the outskirts, with hubs all over. Imagine… it’s easy if you try. Click on the image to see the full map. There are more concept maps on the Transit Coalition website. Do you know of other maps like this one? Please add a link in the comments.

I’ve always thought it Tokyo can do this http://www.matenwee.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/tokyo_subway_map.jpg we could certainly manage the above.

The two complaints about LA are traffic and smog. This kind of change to alleviate both is long since overdue. The subway is already faster than traffic at rush hour if you’re going somewhere along the line. This map would be a dream come true for me.

Los Angeles used to have the best railway system in the world (the Pacific Electric Red Cars), but that was back in the 40′s, before it was dismantled in favor of more freeways. Here’s the map:

[...] The transit activist group Move LA hosted the LA on the Verge event on Friday at Union Station, where transit activists, politicians, and Metro officials discussed the future of getting around in the city–there was a big push at the meeting for an extension on Measure R, the 2008 ballot initiative that increased sales taxes to pay for transit and freeway projects (the extension was proposed recently by Assemblyman Mike Feuer). If Measure R is extended, it could help pay for currently far-off projects like the “Gold Line Foothill Extension to Montclair, the Crenshaw Line north to a junction with the Red Line in Hollywood, pushing the Westside Subway Extension to Bundy and an extension of the still-to-be-defined Sepulveda Pass transit project all the way from the San Fernando Valley to LAX.” [The Source, fantasy map via LA Taco] [...]
