Kwasi boyd-bouldin has lived in and photographed Los Angeles for over 10 years. His new project, the Los Angeles Recording, seeks to document his city, from Downtown to Hollywood over that period. Kwasi focuses on architecture, the small details of urban life, and the contrasts between soaring towers and daily pedestrian life. We asked him for 10 photos, one for each year to help show the scope and style of the archive.
    From the project description:

My interest in photographing urban topography goes back to my childhood. I grew up bouncing around between Hollywood and Koreatown (with a brief stint in Mid-City) and like many other residents, took the rather unique look and feel of my neighborhood for granted. I did not discover photography until my early 20′s when I inherited my father’s Olympus Pen F half frame camera. When I started taking pictures, I was immediately drawn to the landscape of my immediate surroundings. Now, over a decade later, I’m finally organizing my photographic archives into the evolving portrait of Los Angeles you are currently viewing.

The images are presented in order from 2014 to 2004. View more at the Los Angeles Recording.
