City Council Committee to Discuss Murals in Los Angeles

10:08 AM PDT on October 10, 2011

On October 12th at 3:00pm, the City of Los Angeles City Council committees of Arts, Parks, and Neighborhoods and Land Use Management will discuss the city's mural moratorium and current citation policy. From the meeting agenda:

Departments of City Planning (City Planning) and Cultural Affairs (DCA) reports in response to Motion (Huizar – LaBonge) relative to requesting that the Department of Building and Safety and Department of City Planning cease issuing citations or notices to comply for mural signs ordinances until the City has established a permitting process for fine art murals on private property.

There will be room for public comments during the meeting. This is a chance for Angeleños who care about the arts to discuss why the moratorium must go, and why the city needs to stop issuing citations until a citywide permitting process has been created. A good turnout will help the city understand the passion and thoughtfulness behind the #ArtIsNotaCrime and other pro-public art movements. Make sure to get there early, the meeting is at 3pm.

If you can't attend, the least you can do is sign the petition to end the mural moratorium. It will be presented to the committee by its driving force, the artist Saber.

ROOM 350, CITY HALL - 3:00 PM* ~ 200 NORTH SPRING STREET, LOS ANGELES, CA 90012

Juárez-Style Burritos Have Arrived in Southern California, And They are Already Selling Out In Less than An Hour

The month-old strip mall taquería in Anaheim make all their flour tortillas from scratch using both lard and butter, resulting in an extremely tender vehicle for their juicy guisados like carne en su jugo, carne deshebrada, chile colorado, chile relleno, and chicharrón. Every tortilla is cooked to order, too.
