Greg Escalante, R.I.P.

1:40 PM PDT on September 12, 2017

One of the foundational members of the Los Angeles art scene left our world this week, with many artists, art lovers, and Angeleños mourning his loss. Greg Escalante was known as a collector, gallerist and co-founder of the magazine Juxtapoz, but more than that he offered support and inspiration to artists from Los Angeles and around the globe. Tributes from people whose lives he touched have been appearing on social media, all of them united in their appreciation for Escalante's work, and sadness at his passing. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Escalante was 62 years old.

    From Gregorio Escalante Gallery:

It’s with great sadness that we say goodbye to our founder and guiding light, Greg Escalante.A friend to all, he was a visionary with the kindest soul. He meant the world to us.Please bear with us as we come to terms with this unexpected loss.We are here. We are open regular gallery hours for visits, hugs, memories.

A memorial is scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Clayes Performing Arts Center at Cal State Fullerton, 800 N. State College Blvd.

Juárez-Style Burritos Have Arrived in Southern California, And They are Already Selling Out In Less than An Hour

The month-old strip mall taquería in Anaheim make all their flour tortillas from scratch using both lard and butter, resulting in an extremely tender vehicle for their juicy guisados like carne en su jugo, carne deshebrada, chile colorado, chile relleno, and chicharrón.
