Ash Tre Jinkins is a resident of Compton who makes electronic music in a variety of genres. All of it has one thing in common-- it bangs. Jinkins is on a mission not only to make excellent tunes, but also to put Compton on the map as a hub of techno and house music, while educating the youth on the Black origins of the art form. We got the chance to ask this up-and-coming musician a few questions about Los Angeles, techno, and tacos...

What's your favorite taco spot?
Mmm…. there was this place that closed down a while ago in Lincoln heights that had potato tacos. They were always fire !! I don’t remember the name of the spot but I know where it used to be.

You are very future but also grounded in history. How does time effect you?
Time affects it all. The time I take to make music and not. I've got to stay grounded in this life, even though the proper future being present would be nice right now, I just have to build towards that.

What role does Compton play in your music?
Compton helps me get inspired to help Compton out, that's the role it plays. I just want to give back at the end of the day, and change the worldwide perspective. That sounds major but it's what I’m trying to help out with.

Are you part of a movement or crew?
Yeah I am, I’m apart of the NCA crew which is ran by Brassfoot and JMS Khosah. Those dudes are awesome and amazing producers.

If you could make your own theme park what would it have?
I would have a lot of rides that spin, a lot of water rides and jazz playing everywhere haha!

Who do you consider your heroes?
My uncle who passed away in 2013, my dad, Zeroh, Dakim, and Ras_G and my lady.  All these people help me in one way or another to be a better human.

When and where were you most happy?
I can't say... whenever I'm happy I am the most happy lol.

What's your favorite intersection?
Compton and Central, cuz it's outside of my neighborhood and I can see the skyline when I look down Central.

Who are your favorite rappers?
Zeroh, Quelle chris, Roc marciano, Vince staples, Busta Rhymes, Brotha Lynch Hung, Andre Nickatina, And E-40.

Do you have direct access the funk or does the funk contact you on its own schedule?
I have direct access, I’m pretty sure its in my blood.

What do you consider underrated? Overrated?
I consider farming underrated . Overrated?  Call of Duty. f**k that game lol.

Do you have a lucky number?
9, 11, and 4.

What do you wish more people knew about?
I wish more black people knew that black people made house and techno as much as we know that we made hip hop. I feel like black people as a whole lost a lot of freedom of expression by not knowing that. I feel like it's holding back about 15 years of progress or more.

Describe yourself in three words.
Nerdy, demented, pure.

Got any shoutouts?
Big up NCA crew, Disciple agency family, and Motion Ward crew, thanks so much  for the support and I’m just getting started!!! Stick around!!
