Las Fotos Project Presents “Nuestra Virgen De Guadalupe”

2:25 PM PST on December 10, 2012

One of our favorite non-profits, Las Fotos Project, in partnership with Girls Today Women Tomorrow, has facilitated a photography-based workshop with 7 girls from Boyle Heights, CA. Their goal: document the Virgen throughout your neighborhood; find her on t-shirts, bumper stickers, key chains and murals. Using various creative writing methods, the girls then expressed what significance the Virgen carried, be it religious, cultural, or none of the above.

Dec 12th is the Virgen's feast day, and "Nuestra Virgen De Guadalupe" is a photography exhibit created for and by the residents of Boyle Heights as a seen through the eyes of six teenage girls from the community. Prints of their work will be for sale at the events, with 100% of the proceeds going back to the girls' and future photography workshops. Check out times, dates, and locations below:

Juárez-Style Burritos Have Arrived in Southern California, And They are Already Selling Out In Less than An Hour

The month-old strip mall taquería in Anaheim make all their flour tortillas from scratch using both lard and butter, resulting in an extremely tender vehicle for their juicy guisados like carne en su jugo, carne deshebrada, chile colorado, chile relleno, and chicharrón. Every tortilla is cooked to order, too.
