How We Do It: Main Museum ~ DTLA

[dropcap size=big]T[/dropcap]he location of Main Museum on Fourth Street in downtown Los Angeles has changed over the last couple of years. I remember visiting the gone but not forgotten Bar 107 and seeing this empty building nearby with no lights and a chained door. Then a few years after that, the space was host to a street art show titled "Back Alley". You don't believe me? Click here (L.A. TACO Feature) to see the photos from that show. So yeah, you could say that L.A. TACO has seen this space change with the times--  currently it's a gorgeous gallery with character and substance.

Currently on display at Beta Main is the work of Star Montana, one of the most talked about photographers currently coming out of Boyle Heights. A true storyteller with a vision and language that is all her own. Check out more of her story via the L.A. TIMES (click here), and you get a small glimpse into her perspective about photography and the work she produces.

This past Saturday, Star brought together three women-of-color photographers. Valerie J. Bower, Arlene Mejorado and L.A. TACO's own Desilu Munoz. During this talk these four women shared their perspectives, experiences and thoughts about photography and their approach to the medium. It was an inspiring and packed two hours of questions, ideas, and views shared by women with a strong voices in our city's crowded photography landscape.

Star Montana's exhibit "I Dream of Los Angeles" is on display til September 24th so during any Artwalk or just during the weekend pay the Main Museum a visit and check it out. Keep up with Star Montana on Instagram @starmontana.
