Open Shows Summer Lineup Announced ~ Glendale

9:20 AM PDT on June 2, 2017

Glendale Arts announced its Open Shows summer line-up, citing Mndsgn, Sudan Archives, and Cat500 as this event’s talent. Open Shows will take place at the Alex Theatre Forecourt (216 North Brand Blvd. Glendale, 91203) for a night of emerging sights, sounds, crafts, and experimentations on Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 8-11 p.m. The event is co-presented by Glendale Arts and online radio station Dublab, and features San Fernando Valley based all-women art and technology collective Y_NIS.

“With the recent closing of The Complex, we recognize that we are one of the few venues left in Glendale for emerging artists,” said Special Events Coordinator Jess Castillo. “By starting Open Shows in our home base [the Alex Theatre] and partnering with our friends at Dublab, we are excited to offer innovative arts experiences alongside incredible Los Angeles talent thanks to Dublab, and all at an affordable price.”

Artist Ringo Ancheta is the artist behind this summer’s Open Shows headliner, MNDSGN (pronounced “mind design”). Ancheta’s start in music began when he began exploring the city of Philadelphia as a kid and met a stranger who taught him how to make beats on a sampler. Ancheta is now a resident of Los Angeles and works with Stones Throw Records. MNDSGN plays at the Alex Theatre from 10 - 10:45 p.m.

Sudan Archives is a musician and artist from Cincinnati whose violin/vocalist sound creates a rich duo. The 22-year old self-taught violinist and vocalist writes, produces, and performs her own music, but also has the ability to completely imbue her whimsical style into others’ songs, as seen through her rendition of Kendrick Lamar’s “Queen Kunta.” Sudan Archives performs at Open Shows from 9 - 9:45 p.m.

Cat500, also known as Dublab’s Aunt Mitzy, will perform from 8:15 - 10:15 p.m. in the Alex Theatre box office kiosk. The San Fernando Valley producer and artist creates an electro-pop sound noted as “bass-heavy beat sequencing and vintage synthesizer noodling,” according to Stones Throw Records.

This summer’s Open Shows event will highlight local artists at its Arts Market and BYOB exhibition. Craft beer selections will be provided by Glendale’s own Brewyard Beer Co., a returning OAM partner. The BYOB (Bring Your Own Beamer) exhibition will be curated by public art collective and OAM partner Y_NIS, where artists will projection map their animations and video works onto the walls of the forecourt.
