Recap: Designer Con 2015 ~ Part One

Designer Con 2015 has become two day extravaganza that is one of my favorite events to close out the year in Los Angeles. With so many great vendors and exclusives, I highly recommend going both days, if you can. Of course, that will have to be next year because this year's event is in the books. For those who couldn't attend, or if you just want to relive the experience, please enjoy these photos of the  general scene and some of our favorite booths. When you're done, check out part two...

One of the hottest items of DCON was from FUREEK. Handmade Pom Trees inspired by the furry Truffula trees in Dr. Sesuss’ The Lorax. While in line I kept seeing these trees passing by in hands of kids and adults, which was a great way to get the word out about some unique fashion.

Monkeyhouse Society  is the brain-child of owner and founder Mayra Baligad. Monkeyhouse Toys has been featured on L.A. TACO in the past (feature here) for their group art shows in the Silver Lake area of Los Angeles. We made our way to their booth and found so many great items for sale from local artists and companies: Dvious Clothing, Dos Conejos, Blinky, Sprouts, ZLA and so many others.

I met Bigtoe Art aka Tom Laura in Long Beach for an art event, and really enjoyed his unique style-- a great mix of tiki, kustom and surf culture that he has made his own. Bigtoe Art has been featured in many group art shows in the Los Angeles area. Definitely great to see another local artist showcasing at DCON.

At booth #233 was artist Daniel Gonzalez aka Mr. Howl Studios. Passing by his booth I was stopped dead in my tracks by this great sculpture of his character Mr. Howl, a werewolf from another planet. Daniel is setting up a new online comic of Mr. Howl that should be a great read.

One of their main demands is for the school to not only commit to a complete academic boycott of Israel and their killing of Palestinians, but also to be transparent about how much the school is investing.

Swarm of Police in Riot Gear Destroy Peaceful Pro-Palestine Encampment At UCLA During Early Morning Raid, Over 200 Arrested

At 4 AM, CHP broke through the fencing on the other side of the encampment and set up a police line, consistently firing flash-bang grenades into the air. They also fired on protestors with “less-lethal” munitions and rubber bullets, causing an injury to one protester’s face that required stitches.
